Finding relevant grants for research is a long and complicated process. In the current scientific environment, there is fierce competition between scientists for funds, as the number of research projects often exceeds the number of grant proposals. To facilitate the process of finding and selecting funding that fully meets the needs of the researcher, Clarivate has created the Grants Index platform. In this article, we will explain how it works and how it helps to search for grant proposals.

What is Grants Index?
To optimise the search for research funding, Clarivate has developed a specialised database called Grants Index within the Web of Science platform. It is a powerful tool that contains information on more than 5.2 million grants from more than 400 funding agencies in more than 15 countries.
Due to its deep integration with Web of Science resources and the ability to access both current and archived grant proposals, the platform greatly simplifies the process of researching and analysing funding opportunities for research projects.
How can Grants Index be useful?
- Finding the right grants. The Grants Index database contains information on millions of grants from various fields, which allows you to find those that are relevant to the research topic of the researcher.
- Trend analysis. This platform provides an opportunity to track which research topics are in the greatest demand, which organisations most often provide grants, and how the amount of funding changes over time. In this way, a researcher can plan their research and increase the chances of successfully obtaining a grant.
- Optimisation of grant applications. Studying successful projects helps to identify which keywords and phrases are most commonly used in winning applications. Taking this aspect into account will help to prepare a more competitive grant application.
- Expand your network of contacts. Grants Index contains contact information for grant-giving organisations and other researchers working in similar fields. This makes it possible to find partners for cooperation and exchange of experience.
- Saving time. Using this platform allows saving time searching for grants, as all the necessary information is collected on one website.
What is Pivot-RP?
To optimise search queries, the Grants Index database has been integrated with Pivot-RP, a specialised research funding platform that combines powerful analytics tools, intelligent search engines and efficient mechanisms for identifying grant opportunities on a global scale.
Its main function is to provide access to grants that include information about:
- sponsor;
- funding category (keywords);
- the amount;
- application requirements and deadlines;
- sources of additional information.
The system allows users to flag particularly relevant proposals and actively track them. This can be done by receiving updates on changes to funding conditions and personalised reminders of deadlines.
Additionally, users can share the opportunities they find with colleagues, review received proposals, and set up notifications when new projects are available based on specific criteria.
Searching for grant proposals in Grants Index: How to do it?
Firstly, it is worth mentioning that only users with an active Web of Science subscription can work with the Grants Index database. In order to find the information you need, you should take the following steps:
Before you start, check whether you or your institution has an active subscription to Web of Science. After that, enter your login and password to access the platform.
After successful authorisation, on the Web of Science home page, find the tab called ‘Grants’ and click on it.
The Grants Index search interface is quite simple and user-friendly. To obtain the information they need, users are provided with a number of fields that allow them to refine their search criteria. This allows users to focus on the most relevant grant proposals that meet their research interests and needs.
